Great news for skilled professionals outside the European Union! Germany has launched a brand new scheme – the Opportunity Card – designed to attract talent and address its labor shortage. Here’s what you need to know:
Unlocking Opportunities in Germany
As of June 1, 2024, skilled workers from outside the EU can leverage the Opportunity Card to seek work in Germany for up to a year. This eliminates the previous requirement of securing a job offer before entering the country.
Qualifying for the Card
Obtaining the Opportunity Card is a points-based system. Factors like language skills, professional experience, age, and ties to Germany will determine your eligibility. Scoring at least six points lands you the card.
Freedom to Explore
Once you have the card, you can enter Germany and actively search for a job that aligns with your skills for an entire year. During this time, you’re also permitted to take on part-time or trial jobs for up to 20 hours a week.
A Win-Win Situation
Germany’s labor market is facing a significant skills gap, and the Opportunity Card is a strategic solution. It allows skilled individuals to find fulfilling careers in Germany, while filling crucial positions for businesses.
Looking Ahead
The Opportunity Card program is a significant step towards attracting and retaining skilled workers in Germany. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or a recent graduate, this initiative opens doors for a promising future in the heart of Europe.
