As of August 2024, Romania has rolled out several key updates to its work visa regulations. These changes align more closely with EU standards and enhance the immigration process for foreign nationals. Here’s a breakdown of the latest updates:
Extended Deadlines and Validity:
- Long-stay visa applications for secondment now have a 180-day deadline.
- Residence permits for permanent workers are valid for up to 2 years.
- Highly skilled workers can now hold permits for up to 3 years.
Work Authorization Requirements:
- All highly skilled workers need work authorization, including those with protection status.
- Workers must have five years of professional experience or three years for specific positions.
Mobile Highly Skilled Workers:
- A new category allows these workers to enter Romania and work without authorization.
- They must meet certain conditions to qualify.
Part-Time Work for Students:
- Students with residence permits can now work part-time, up to six hours a day.
- No work authorization is required for this part-time work.
Family Reunification:
- Sponsors must now meet new financial support requirements.
- Family members must apply for residence permits within one month of entering Romania.
