Bulgaria to Enforce Border Controls with Romania Starting January 2025

  • EU Council Decision: The European Union Council adopted a unanimous decision to remove land border controls between the two countries.
  • Political Support: EU leaders, including President Metsola, have expressed support for this move as it strengthens the Schengen Area.
  • Long-Term Goal: After six months, the border controls will be lifted, marking Romania and Bulgaria’s full integration into Schengen.
