Bulgaria’s Booming Economy Needs You: Filling Labor Shortages with Foreign Workers

26 June 2024 · Europe Permit

Bulgaria’s economy is thriving, but faces a challenge: a major workforce shortage. Experts say they need up to 300,000 foreign workers! This is especially urgent for the 70,000 seasonal jobs needing immediate help.

Diversifying the Workforce:

The solution? Bringing in skilled workers from other countries. The government plans quotas for hiring outside the EU to diversify their workforce. A new 3-year visa program is expected to bring 35,000-40,000 foreign workers this year alone!

Successful Integration and Strong Interest:

Early signs are promising! Workers from countries like Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are integrating well. There’s also strong interest from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. Competitive salaries (€500-€700) make Bulgaria attractive.

Focus on Critical Shortages:

But Bulgaria doesn’t need general labor. Specific professions are in high demand. The European Labour Authority identified 11 critical shortages, including truck drivers, chefs, and nurses. Foreign workers can make a big difference here.

Investing in the Future:

By welcoming foreign workers, Bulgaria isn’t just solving a current problem, they’re investing in the future. Integrating skilled individuals strengthens their economy and creates a more diverse society. It’s a win-win for Bulgaria and the talented workers who join them!
