Indonesia Visa Update 2025: In-Person Visits Now Required for All Extensions

31 May 2025 · Europe Permit

  • New Rule Enforced: Starting May 29, 2025, Indonesia requires all foreign nationals to appear in person at immigration offices to extend their visas or stay permits.

  • Online Application Still Required: Applicants must first submit their documents online via evisa.imigrasi.go.id before scheduling an in-person visit.

  • Mandatory Biometrics: The process now includes a photo capture and an in-person interview at the immigration office.

  • All Visa Types Affected: This change applies to Visa on Arrival (VoA), e-VoA, and all Temporary Residence Permits (KITAS) for work, family, retirement, investment, or study.

  • Reason for Change: The new rule addresses a 36.7% increase in immigration violations from January to April 2025.

  • Support for Vulnerable Groups: Elderly individuals, people with disabilities, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and those in emergency situations can complete the process on-site without an appointment.

  • Guarantor Responsibility: Sponsors must report any changes in the civil status, address, or immigration situation of foreign nationals they support.

  • Legal Consequences: Failure to comply with the new procedures may result in legal consequences for both the applicant and the sponsor.

  • Planning Ahead: Travelers and expats are advised to plan their visa renewals well in advance of expiration.

  • Consult Professionals: For assistance, consider consulting with a licensed immigration consultant or local sponsor.
