Many deployed workers reach the final months of a first contract with the same question: what now? The good news is that a worker already in Europe legally, with a performance record, is in a stronger position than they were as an applicant.
The usual paths
- Extension with the same employer — the most common and simplest path. The employer handles permit renewal paperwork on their side; your part is signing the extension terms and keeping your residence documents current.
- A new contract in the same country — possible, but the permit logic starts again with the new employer. Legal sequence matters as much as it did the first time.
- Completing the term and returning — a completed contract with documented experience is a genuine asset for any future deployment.
Mistakes to avoid
Never let residence documents lapse while "waiting to decide" — legality has no grace period. Never accept verbal extension promises past a permit expiry date. And treat any third party offering a paid "status fix" late in a contract with the same suspicion you would show an unlicensed agent at home.
Where we fit
Renewal paperwork is employer-side, but our support channels stay open to deployed candidates throughout — including at contract end. A question asked two months early is routine; the same question asked two weeks late can be a crisis. Ask early.
