One of the most important skills for any worker planning to move abroad is verification. A genuine overseas job is built on a real employer — and a worker who verifies before committing protects themselves from the most common forms of fraud. This is a practical checklist for anyone considering a Romania opportunity.
1. Start with one question: who is the employer?
This is the simplest and most powerful test. A legitimate opportunity can name the employer — a registered company with a real identity.
- Can the agency tell you the company name?
- Can you see that it is a registered business?
- Is the role specific (e.g. MIG welder, production operator, driver)?
If the answer is "it will be arranged later" or the employer is unnamed, stop and ask again.
2. Verify the role, location and terms
Before you commit, you should know:
- The exact job title and duties.
- The work location — city or site, in Romania.
- The pay — net monthly or hourly, clearly stated.
- The hours — shifts, weekly hours, overtime rules.
- The contract type — fixed-term, permanent, or seasonal.
Vague answers to any of these are a warning.
3. Verify the agency's licence
On the Indian side, deal only with an MEA-licensed overseas recruitment agency. If you are in Nepal, the route should run through a DoFE-licensed agency.
- A licensed agency operates within the rules that protect you.
- An unlicensed agent has no accountability.
Ask directly: is the agency licensed? A genuine one answers without hesitation.
4. Demand a written contract
A real placement always includes a written contract — not a verbal promise. Before you sign:
- Read it fully.
- Check the pay, hours, accommodation and notice terms.
- Keep your own copy.
- Ask about anything unclear.
If there is no written contract, there is no protection.
5. Never pay for a "guarantee"
No one can honestly guarantee a visa or a job. Be deeply suspicious of:
- "100% visa guaranteed."
- Large cash payments "to secure the job."
- Pressure to pay before any documents exist.
A legitimate process is transparent about real costs and never sells guarantees.
6. Verify the documents
- Your passport must be genuine and undamaged — never stapled.
- Your experience and certificates must be real.
- Never allow anyone to falsify a document on your behalf.
7. Know the process before you commit
A genuine Romania placement follows a sequence: employer demand → work permit → visa → arrival. If the process is unclear, or promised "in days", be cautious. Real corridors take time.
8. Check the timeline and pressure tactics
Fraudsters create urgency. Genuine employers do not. If you are being rushed — "sign today or lose the job" — slow down and verify.
9. Ask the licence and permit questions
- Who is the Romanian employer?
- Which licensed agency is processing this?
- What documents will be issued, and in what order?
- What does the contract say?
10. Protect your family and your money
Before committing, talk it through with people you trust. A genuine opportunity can survive scrutiny. A fraudulent one cannot.
