The interview at the Embassy of Romania is the final official step before a visa decision — and it is also where many otherwise-complete files stumble. 1. Passport validity — at least 12 months
Your passport must have at least 12 months of validity remaining on the day of the interview. Check this well before your appointment, not the week before.
- Count the months from your interview date, not from when you applied.
- If your passport is close to expiry, renew it before the interview — a short-dated passport is a leading reason files are delayed.
2. Bring all old / previous passports
You must bring every previous passport you have held to the interview.
- Embassies need to see your full travel and visa history, not just the current passport.
- Missing an old passport can raise questions about completeness — bring them all even if they are expired.
3. Complete the online visa application accurately
The online visa application form must be completed accurately, with every applicable field filled out.
- Incomplete or inconsistent fields are a common source of avoidable delays.
- Cross-check every detail against your passport, contract and supporting documents — a single mismatched field can prompt extra scrutiny.
4. Submit all required documents on the day — no pending items
All required documents must be submitted on the day of the interview, with no pending items. The file should be complete, including:
- A valid Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) within its validity window
- Any required authorizations (e.g., the work authorization reference for a D/AM2 application)
- The other checklist documents tied to your route
If anything is missing or pending, the file cannot be completed at that interview — plan ahead.
5. Be available after the interview — until 2:00 to 3:00 PM
After your interview, remain available until 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on the same day.
- If your biometrics were not captured properly, the embassy may recall you the same day for re-capture.
- Do not book onward travel or leave the area until this window has passed.
6. Biometric recalls for past candidates
The embassy may also contact candidates whose interviews are already complete if their biometrics were missed or failed to register properly in the system, requiring them to return for re-capture.
- Keep your contact details current and be reachable after your interview.
- If you are contacted for a biometric re-capture, respond promptly — this is a routine administrative step, not a refusal.
